ANC task team members may face music

All members of a newly-elected ANC task team in the Buffalo City region may be summarily suspended, the party’s provincial working committee (PWC) resolved on Monday.

This follows an announcement by the provincial executive committee two weeks ago that the leaders of recent protest marches to regional and provincial ANC offices would be hauled before a disciplinary committee.

ANC provincial chairman Phumulo Masualle said they would have to explain their actions in front of the provincial integrity committee led by Shepherd Mayathula.

ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane refused to comment on the latest developments taken during the PWC meeting in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

“We can’t be discussing ANC matters with the media.

“We made it public two weeks ago after the PEC resolved to act against ring leaders of these protests. That is all we are prepared to say in the public domain.”

However, the Daily Dispatch can reveal that the Masualle-led PWC extended the scope of the ANC’s disciplinary processes to include all ANC members elected into BCM’s Regional task team (RTT) last Saturday. These includes regional convenor Joe Jordaan; his deputy Mike Mnikina; coordinator Mahlubi Dywili; deputy coordinator Nomathamsanqa Calata; treasurer Patric Daniso; and 20 additional members.

An ANC leader close to the developments, who asked to remain anonymous, said ANC regional leaders in OR Tambo and BCM had been asked to identify those behind the protest marches.

The disgruntled group has been demanding a full report on Jessie Duarte’s findings into allegations of membership rigging while the two regions were preparing for their elective conferences in the past few months.

Speaking on behalf of the Jordaan-led, BCM RTT’s Somaca said: “We are not taking this PEC seriously. The first thing they should be doing is to come to us and establish why is things are as they are in BCM, before they talk about taking anyone to a disciplinary process. They have not even engaged us to hear our side of the story,” said Somaca. — zineg@dispatch.co.za
