Cash-for-jobs scandal to be probed

THE provincial ANC leadership has instructed Buffalo City Metro (BCM) to investigate allegations that a ruling party councillor sold jobs to desperate jobseekers.

The instruction came after a report in Monday’s Dispatch, in which Mdantsane, Duncan Village and Reeston residents said they had paid between R500 and R1 500 to ward 12 councillor Landile Vika and a married couple based in Mdantsane’s NU1 to secure council jobs.

The residents have made a complaint of theft to the police against the trio. The police yesterday said no arrests have been made.

The councillor has denied the allegations levelled against him while the couple reportedly fled their home.

Vika has contacted his lawyer in an attempt to clear his name.
