A NEW Christian political party that aims to encourage youth to find God will be launched in Cape Town next month.
The seeds of Nehemiah Liberation Christian Party , under the leadership of Aletta Riddles, were planted when she had a vision about two years ago. Riddles said in the vision, God told her to start her own party to win over the youth of South Africa for Him.
“Our children are vulnerable, the devil is using them to do bad things. They are involved in drugs and all sorts of bad things. When these children are doing bad things we need to ask ourselves who is controlling them,” she said.
She said she had the vision when she was going through a difficult time with her own daughter, who was involved in drugs.
“I asked God what needed to be done. I cried all night and then God reminded me of Nehemiah’s story of how he had reconstructed the walls of Jerusalem. The walls of Jerusalem were falling and that is what’s happening with our youth ... ”
“I’ve been sharing with people what God has laid into my heart and people are so excited. They say to me, ‘Aletta this is a party we’ve been waiting for’,” she said.
Ibandla LaseMthini Evangelical Movement pastor Tshepho Machaea said churches needed to unite first before starting up new political parties. “Politicians tend to want to impress other people and I believe we as Christians should go out to the community without being politically affiliated to any party,” he said.
Said Rhema Umtata Christian Church pastor Don Phillips: “If God has given this lady a vision then we cannot deny that. The existing Christian party is like the rest, they only show up when they want votes .” After the launch on May12, Riddles said she would be travelling around the country to share the party’s vision with churches. —
