Amampondo from all walks of life and wearing their traditional best travelled far to witness the enthronement of monarch King Zanozuko Tyelovuyo Sigcau at Ndimakude Great Place about 15km outside Flagstaff at the weekend.

The event saw various rival traditional groups such as Oonombola and Iindlavini come together to celebrate the royal event, one that has not been seen in Mpondoland for many decades.

Traditional music and dance groups, as well as horse racing, entertained those who attended.

The event was also used as a platform to promote and revive some of the indigenous cultural practices of AmaMpondo, and it put those of the nation’s music and dance talents which make it distinct from other nations under the spotlight.
