Eastern Cape musos make all right noises to scoop Samas

Eastern Cape Cape musicians stole the spotlight and scooped most of the accolades at the 22nd South African Music Awards held at the Durban ICC on Saturday evening.

Afro-soul singer  Nathi Mankayi, who beat the best in the industry when Nomvula won song of the year at the Metro FM Awards, scooped five awards for best male artist, best newcomer, best R&B/Soul artist and two other non-broadcast awards.

Zonke Dikana from Port Elizabeth took best female artist and East London’s own Zahara scooped best produced album for Country Girl.

“Over the weekend we saw the Eastern Cape flag fly victoriously on the Sama stage in KZN, Durban,” Eastern Cape department of sports, recreation, arts and culture head Mzolisi Matutu said.

“These artists’ winnings punctuates and assures us that our province is indeed a home of legends. Our programme to develop artists through the Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre further strengthens our resolve to support our artists.

“We congratulate  Black Coffee, Zonke, Nathi, Emtee and Zahara, who deservedly won in their genres,” Matutu said.
