The DA has lost a ward in Buffalo City Metro to the ANC, the latest official elections commission results show.

This will see ANC provincial communications officer Pindile Miza become Ward 3 Councillor, a ward which covers Southernwood, Braelyn Heights, Milner Estates and Stoney Drift.

The ward was under DA control after Patricia Williams won a by-election in January 2014. The party fielded Williams to serve a second term. But Miza got 47.04% of the vote while Williams got 34.5%. Economic Freedom Fighter Loyiso Mangisa secured only 13.48%.

Interviewed minutes after the IEC declared the results, Miza said: "This is remarkable! I am still putting my mind to it." Hooters went off in the the municipal area just before 1am on Thursday after the final voting station had been counted.

"I was then contacted by the party agents and they informed that indeed everything went well," said Miza.

All eyes are now on BCM's Ward 10, a ward the DA is also going neck-and-neck with the ANC. The ward, which covers areas such as Egoli, Vergenoeg, Fynbos, Beverly Hills and portion of Ghost town, was under Irene Brauns of the DA. But the party fielded soccer administrator Burton Brown as their ward candidate for yesterday's election.
