The singer’s musical journey started when she joined Joyous Celebration at the tender age of 15. Her popularity rose and soon she went solo and released her debut album, Bambelela, in 2001. Since then she has opened for international gospel musicians Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin and Cece Winans.

The KwaZulu-Natal-born singer told the Daily Dispatch yesterday it took her more than two years to complete Spirit and Life. “The process starts with the message I want to take out to the people and then it gets down to the work. The title of the album sums up the message,” she said.

The album is based on John 6.63, which reads, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

She said this was the first album that she and her musician husband, Nqubeko Mbatha owned. “This is exciting for us. We call this album our faith project,” she said. Mbambo said there was a lot of negativity in the world and her goal was to spread a message of revival to God’s people.

“It is as if we are living in a hopeless age. This album is scripture-based because life is found in the word of God,” she said.

Mbambo said on the journey of writing new material she learned that God remains the same every season.

“Whatever our circumstances, they do not change who God is and He always makes a way.

“This has been the biggest lesson I learned and it has strengthened my relationship with God. I saw God reviving my spirit,” she said.

Although she would not compare this album to her previous work, Mbambo said she has grown in all spheres of her life.

“I have grown a lot, not only as a woman but in my relationship with God and in life. As you grow older there are lessons that you learn along the way which make you a better person,” she said.
