Good People Market to entertain all of EL

By POLISWA PLAATJIE

Arts and crafts lovers are in for a treat this Saturday, when the Good People Market, in conjunction with the Koolerbox Popup, takes place at Drifters Raceway Theme Park in Cambridge, East London.

The day event will start with a market consisting of various food, clothing, art and other stalls, a photobooth, live music and band performances.

Good People Market founder Thulethu Ngqokwe said the market accommodated both indoor and outdoor events, which consisted of various activities.

“The goal of The Good People Market is to engage the community in general without focusing on one age group to create an environment in which everyone feels welcome and accommodated for.

“In addition, it is to bring the community together in just being good,” she said.

Ngqokwe said their first event in October this year at James Pearce Park was an introduction of “what we are about”.

“This market is bigger and better than what we had last time,” she said.

Saturday’s event will include live performances by local artists from 10am to 12 noon, including Fix, Lenny K, Sk Solo, Vinnie Mac, B’Ocean, Angela and Thandi Ralana.

Later in the day, the Koolerbox Popup will kick off with a number of DJs lined up to keep the crowds entertained.

Koolerbox Entertainment’s founder, Khululekile Sixaba, said they would host international DJ Andy Compton, who is from Bristol in England.

Compton has released more than 30 albums and close to 150 extended plays (EPs).

He will be supported by artists such as Agentz Lungaz, Tony H and Charlie Deepster.

Koolerbox Entertainment was founded in July this year and has created numerous job opportunities for the youth, who will be working as waitresses, waiters and promoters at the event.

“It is great to know that we are making a difference in other people’s lives. At the same time, we want to ensure that the unknown artists become known,” said Sixaba.
