Internatinal award winning jazz muso Vanessa Moodley is coming to East London this weekend for a one-night show at The Velvet Jazz Lounge.

The Durban-born singer, who is now based in the United Kingdom, will be coming to East London for the first time to the lounge at Latimer’s Landing.

Lounge owner Alfredo Naidoo said Moodley’s show was a kick start to what would be an action-packed festive season. “It has been quiet over the past couple of weeks but now things are starting to pick up. We are honoured to be hosting an international singer,” Naidoo said.

Moodley was named winner of the jazz category and a finalist in the World Music category in the 2009 US songwriting competition soon after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance, composition and arranging from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

With 10 years of performance experience under her belt, she has entertained audiences in South Africa, Sweden and Canada. Moodley’s performance, in association with Concerts SA, is a promotional tour for her first original extended play (EP) Loved, which kicked off in her home city on November 25. The tour will feature a number of KwaZulu-Natal supporting talent, namely Neil Gonsalves, Alwyn John Singh, Sebastian Gilchrist, Mark Royeppen, Sebastian Goldswain and Shemual Mahabeer.

Moodley will also perform in Cape Town at The Crypt on December 16.

Naidoo said after Moodley’s event this Sunday he would be working with a number of events promoters to bring East London the best entertainers in the country.

“From December 15 to January 2 we will be bringing down a lot of big names to the lounge.

“Our aim is to bring the best and make sure our people are catered for,” he said.

lTickets for the Sunday show cost R100 and will be available at the door.
