Berita ‘Surprises’ all her fans with single

Award-winning singer Berita released a new single today titled Surprises ahead of her third album.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, she described the sound of her latest single as “fresh and different”.

“Last year, I did a song with hip-hop artist Yanga and it was something I had never done before.

“I believe it’s the same thing for this song, I have never done something like this before.”

Berita said she wrote the song while going through many changes in her life.

“The single was inspired by feeling that we should find joy in the present and hope in the future.

“The song is about the simple ways to enjoy and appreciate life, as it is full of surprises, so one should not wallow in one’s sorrow as we do not know what tomorrow will bring.”

The gold-selling artist, who has collaborated with Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi in the past on the track Mwana Wa Mai, is currently putting the finishing touches to her much anticipated third album produced by Mjakes and Kunle Ayo.

“I decided to self-title this album because I feel there is a lot of growth and it’s time I reintroduce myself to my followers.

The Zimbabwe-born songstress honed her singing skills while based in East London studying financial information systems at Walter Sisulu University.

In 2014, she moved to Johannesburg where she released her second album titled, Songs of Empowerment.

Her 2012 debut album, Conquering Spirit, saw her winning a Metro FM award for best afro-pop album.

The 25-year-old singer is also set to perform in East London this month at the Eastern Cape Music Awards on February 25.

The single Surprises is available on iTunes and all digital stores from today. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
