Former Goldfish vocalist Sakhile Moleshe is bringing his Shapeshifting tour to the Eastern Cape this weekend.

The tour will also see him making his first appearance at the Guild Theatre as a professional musician.

“My music career started at the Guild Theatre at the age of 17.

“Back then I also met Alan Webster and I got to work with the East Big Band – and now I make my return with my own band. I am really excited about this,” he said.

His East London show is on Sunday.

Many will remember the University of Cape Town music graduate from his Goldfish days for mega hits such as Cruisin' Through and Fort Knox from the group’s international hit album, Perceptions of Pacha.

He was the featured vocalist for the group from 2008 to 2012 before leaving it to pursue other interests.

Among many projects he did, Moleshe co-founded Globalise Yourself Stereo – an online radio show that is broadcast twice a week.

He is also the founder of music publishing house Imilozi Music and a five-piece band called Soul Housing Project.

“I travelled abroad before moving to Johannesburg as a fresh start.

“The move also gave me time to build new concepts and I am enjoying being in Johannesburg. Cape Town was too slow for me,” he said.

Since moving to Johannesburg last year, Moleshe reconnected with musicians Simz Tshabalala and Ayanda Zalekile, whom he met while he was based in Cape Town.

“We now call ourselves Shapeshifting Trio and we will be bringing new music to the people of Eastern Cape,” he said.

To mark his return, Moleshe will be on keys and vocals with Tshabalala on drums and Zalekile on bass.

“This is a first for me – playing keyboard and singing at the same time. This is something I have been practising for years, and now I finally get to do it.”

Moleshe says working with Tshabalala and Zalekile is a fun journey.

“They are playing music they have never heard before and they respect my craft. The music has a strong dose of rhythm and everyone is bringing their A-game to the mix.

“I cannot wait for the people of the Eastern Cape to hear these sounds,” he said.

On Friday Moleshe and his band will perform at Olde 65 in Grahamstown and on Saturday at the Artec Centre in Port Elizabeth. After East London they will make their way to Port St Johns and Mthatha.

Tickets for his East London show cost R70 and are available at Computicket and the Guild Theatre.

The show starts at 6.30pm.

Fans can buy their Mthatha show tickets at Von Sway restaurant on Sutherland Street, and on the day of the show people can buy the tickets at the door.

In Port St Johns the tickets can be bought at AmaMpondo Backpackers. —poliswap@dispatch.co.za
