Komani-born electro producer and DJ Blaque, 25, is gearing up for his first world tour to promote his debut album Fragments.

Blaque, whose real name is Tamsanqa Ngxeketo, runs his own record label, Soul Imperatives Music, and has a distribution deal with UK-based distributor Label Worx.

Label Worx is involved with an array of talented global DJs such as Hardwell, John Dahlback, and Armin van Buuren.

The distribution deal saw Label Worx releasing Ngxeketo’s music overseas.

His album is available on digital stores all over the world, including Jay Z’s Tidal.

The album features a diverse lineup of artists, including Jonny Miller from the UK, Nengah Krisnarini from Indonesia, New York’s Jasmine Clemente and the West Coast’s Samantha Faison. “Producing this album was my way of telling my life story. All the songs are intense, but it’s not all a sad story,” Ngxeketo said.

“I believe this album is also very relevant for every life situation an ordinary person might be going through.”

He said the album was a mix of soulful, Afro-tinged sounds with chilled-out grooves and funked-up house vibes.

Ngxeketo first started experimenting with hip-hop music production at the age of 15 and later focused on electro music.

His career started in 2009 when he left his Komani home to join Sony Music in Johannesburg.

His tour kicks off in August and will see him going to Brazil, South Korea, Costa Rica, the US, Greece, the UK and Singapore.

Ngxeketo said his debut album’s success had afforded him an opportunity to release his follow-up album through Sony Music Entertainment Africa.

He signed a licence deal with the label.

“My relationship with Sony Music will give me an opportunity to also grow my brand here at home because currently my music is doing well overseas,” he said, adding that most of his album sales were from overseas.

“Even my following on social media is from overseas,” he said. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
