From Xhotoons to Xhomovies, actor-comedian Siviwe Lutseke’s translation of popular animation shows into isiXhosa skits has become an instant hit.
Lutseke records over the dialogue of shows using his own humorous narrative.
His dialogue is in isiXhosa, hence Xhotoons or Xhomovies.
The Komani-born Lutseke started recording videos of himself poking fun at African mothers, girls and general matters last year.
The short videos soon saw him starting his own YouTube channel, Siviwe Tubes.
After having started Xhotoons about three months ago, the channel has already been viewed by thousands of people, including South African celebrities.
Actor Atandwa Kani is one of the many who re-posts Lutseke’s videos. With more than 20000 views, his videos have also caught the attention of popular SABC 3 show, Trending SA.
Lutseke said social media was the best platform for people to promote their craft.
“Well to be honest, I’ve always wanted to be a voice-over artist.
“Xhotoons was born as an experiment, not knowing that hundreds of thousands of people would be hooked,” he said.
“Never in my wildest imagination did I think they would become so popular.”
Lutseke also has dreams of creating his own cartoons in various languages and to start generating income through his YouTube channel.
“As you progress you’ll get more views and subscribers.
“Once your channel gets licenced, mine already is, you start making an income out of the videos,” he said.
Lutseke also works with other funny video makers such as Fash Ngobese and KwaMagxaki-born Siyabulela Deli, popularly known as Ta Fire.
Deli moved to Johannesburg in 2015 to pursue a career in acting and soon found himself making comic videos.
“It’s been amazing working with the two – they’ve played a very pivotal role throughout my vlogging career. They always motivate me to do better and be better as a person.
“Honestly, I don’t know where I would be without them,” he said.
