Arguably the biggest hip-hop star in South Africa, AKA, is bringing his show to East London next week.

AKA, who is popularly known as the SupaMega, will perform at Buffalo City Stadium next week Saturday.

AKA made his solo debut in the music industry in 2009 and released hits like Mistakes, In My Walk and Do It, which led radio charts. He won Metro FM Music Awards for best newcomer, best hip-hop as a solo act and best produced album for his debut album, Altar Ego.

Fast forward to 2017, and the rapper continues to release hit after hit. Some of his latest songs include World is Mine, Angelz, Caiphus Song and 10 Fingers.

The show, organised by Sphere ICT, will see the rapper bringing along some of the industry’s top musicians.

Sphere ICT’s Solethu Mdludlu said for the past four years their company had been hosting themed spring parties.

“This year’s show is themed the SupaMega. In the past we’ve brought the likes of Bucie, Da Les, Professor and Okmalumkoolkat.

“Our aim is to continue bringing East London the best performers and that is why we are bringing AKA,” he said.

Mdludlu said the rapper had only had the SupaMega show in major cities and they were excited to be adding East London to the list.

“This is his first SupaMega show this year and it is also a first for the Eastern Cape.”

Mdludlu said since they announced the show, the response from the public had been great.

“We opened tickets recently and have run out of early bird tickets on both occasions we have released them,” he said.

He said hey were impressed to see there were people coming from as far as Mthatha, Port Elizabeth, Komani and Knysna to see the SupaMega perform live.

“This just shows that AKA is the biggest act in the country, because we have different ethnicity from all walks of life who will be coming to East London to share in what has been dubbed the biggest SupaMega show of all time.”

Mdludlu said this was also a major boost for the city as it showed that it could host a massive show.

AKA will be arriving in the city on Wednesday next week and is expected to do interviews and visit some schools.

“This will be as part of the AKA Foundation. We have lined up a few visits to some schools around East London and Mdantsane. We have also chosen one higher education institution that he will be visiting.”

General tickets for the show cost R100 and are available at Computicket.
