EL beauty wins cosmetics firm prize

Eastern Cape beauty queen Thandokazi Mfundisi was crowned the face of a popular cosmetics brand at the annual Miss Face of Signature 2017-2018, which took place in Gauteng this past weekend.

Niche retailer of cosmetics and toiletry products, with a chain of 110 stores throughout southern Africa, Signature Cosmetics invites young women to enter their annual beauty competition as a way to inspire girls and provide opportunities for models to advance their careers.

Signature marketing manager Lehandri Verster said they had received thousands of entries for the competition from various provinces and neighbouring countries such as Namibia and Lesotho. From the entries, the contestants were cut to the top 40.

“After we selected the top 40 it was up to the contestants to get themselves to the top 10. Finalists had to post their pictures on various social media platforms and the contestants with the most likes moved to the next leg of the competition,” she said.

With close to 1000 likes on Facebook, both Mfundisi and Mthatha’s Sibulele Kwake, represented the Eastern Cape in the top 10 and jetted off to Johannesburg for the final pageant.

The top 10 also attended modeling and make-up workshops.

Prior to the final pageant, which was held at Mall Carnival in Brakpan, the top 10 models also had to take up a charity social initiative (CSI) project. These are aimed at making an impact in the contestants’ local communities with support from their local Signature store.

Mfundisi hosted a sanitary pad drive, where she handed over sanitary packs to more than 50 pupils from the Masizakhe Children’s Home in Mdantsane. She also gave a motivational, lifestyle and health talk at the home.

Mfundisi, who was crowned Miss Eastern Cape in December last year, said she was overwhelmed but mostly honoured to be crowned “Miss Face of Signature 2017-2018” .

Mfundisi, who has just completed her law degree and is busy with her law practical training with the Law Society of South Africa, said she had entered the pageant as a way of expanding her horizons in the modelling industry.

“I’m crazy about make-up and when I found out about the competition, I immediately knew I had to enter. I also love giving back to the community and this is what the competition entailed.

“Being crowned the overall winner was very overwhelming and I am so honoured to get the opportunity to represent Signature, especially considering that no one from the Eastern Cape has won before. I met such beautiful girls who all have such wonderful ideas, it’s really an honour,” she said.

Mfundisi will receive a modelling contract and full portfolio with Limelight Models.

The beauty will also be the face of Signature products in stores nationwide.
