Beauty queen Unati Magwa, who was recently crowned Miss Berlin November, has described the experience as her rebirth.
As the reigning queen, 22-year-old Magwa is expected to appear at community events with young women and also promote the prestigious horse-racing event.
The Lusikisiki-born beauty said she started modeling at the age of 10 in Willowvale, where she was crowned Miss Lubomvini Junior Secondary School.
Magwa continued entering pageants, including Miss Mnquma Local Municipality, Miss Khanya Community Radio, Miss Ebenezer Christian School, Miss King William’s Town and, most recently, the Miss Berlin November.
“This new chapter of my life sets everything apart. It’s an opportunity to find myself and serve communities positively while uplifting and growing my profile.
“I would call it a rebirth for Unati Magwa,” she said.
Pageant organiser Noloyiso Ngalo said they decided to launch Miss Berlin November as an intervention to curb some of the negative behaviour shown by the youth of the Eastern Cape.
“The end goal is to groom young women in following their dreams and raising the bar of modelling in the Eastern Cape and to the rest of the world.
“Aspiring models in the Eastern Cape are not getting enough recognition and platforms to grow and develop their skills because of stereotypes around the concept of pageants.
“Miss Berlin November’s dynamic creativity will be used to set up a platform from which the talents of the participants will be highlighted by giving them maximum exposure through strategic partnerships,” she said.
Coming from a disadvantaged background, the Buffalo City College student said she was humbled to have won the pageant.
“The challenges and triumphs I’ve endured fuel my determination to climb the ladder of life to the full. The rewards have been enormous this year,” she said.
One of Magwa’s responsibilities as Miss Berlin November is to spread the message of responsible gambling. “There are more other initiatives that comes with this title and I can’t wait to get my hands dirty and inspire other young women, learn more and grow under this brand as a young adult,” she said. — email@example.com
