Babes Wodumo, Distruction Boyz and Nasty C are some of the national artists who will be performing in Mthatha next week at the third annual Camouflage Camo Night.
Event organiser Isiphile Benya yesterday said Camo Night was a lifestyle event initiated to give Mthatha’s working middle class, who are away the whole year, a platform and a chance to network and socialise.
However, he said the most important element of the event was to help boost the local economy.
“We want this event to be owned by the people of Mthatha, and as a result we are only working with local businesses. Already we have a partnership with 15 guesthouses and we have set up a call centre where people who need accommodation can call us and we link them with one of those guesthouses,” said Benya.
He said such events create a platform for businesses to grow.
“We are using local service providers from sound and lighting equipment to catering. We have also set aside 20 spots for stalls, which means hawkers also get a piece of the pie. We have also made sure that the local artists are from different towns, so we have acts from Komani, Port Elizabeth and Mthatha and surrounds, giving everyone a chance to shine,” he said.
Benya said Camo Night had the potential to draw visitors to Mthatha, thereby placing the city on the map.
The event will be held at the Nkululekweni Grounds near Ultra City.
Other artists on the lineup include hip hop star Ricky Rick and a number of local artists, with the likes of DJ Pk and DJ Angisto. Popular Idols SA judge Somizi will be hosting the event.
Camo Night is on December 16. Tickets are R150 (general) and R550 (VIP) via Computicket.
Gates open at 1pm.
