East London hip hop artist Crazy Mandy is the latest rapper to arrive on the local music scene with the release of his EP Rise in Mdantsane, which was released recently.

His single Kuze Kuse left fans begging for more at Berlin November after his electrifying performance.

Born Mandilakhe Mpanjukelwa, the NU11 Mdantsane-born rapper, 23, began with the craft at a young age and has already toured the country.

“I started dancing at the age of four and I was influenced in rapping at 14.

“I entered local events to improve my skill and did a number of performances across South Africa.”

“The reason I named my EP Rise in Mdantsane is because of the passion and motivation my city gives me. That’s where I get the full support and my people always show some love. I appreciate that big time,” he said.

“I believe hard work pays. Whatever the situation is, I will rise here in Mdantsane and make history.”

Kuze Kuse was produced by DJ Lynch. His music can be found online. “My EP was on Sound Cloud and Data File Host,” he added.

Performing at this year’s Eastern Cape Music Awards was the highlight of his career so far. “The EC Music Awards was a great experience because it changed the game for me.

“My music is hip hop and I rap about struggles and being taken for granted. In most cases I had to pull myself up and I do it to motivate people who think they can’t make it.”

The versatile artist also produces music for other local rappers.

He says his family is his pillar of strength.

“I was lucky to know my father at an early age because my parents were not married. My mother died in 2003 then I lived with my grandmother and siblings.

“My family played a big role to the person I am today. I never felt like I did not have a mother.

“My family have supported me in everything I wanted to achieve.” — bhongoj@tisoblackstar.co.za
