Top acts AKA, Cassper Nyovest, TKZee and Distruction Boyz are making their way to East London next Tuesday for the annual London Roots Party at Police Park.
The event, which is in its third year now, will see Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo returning as the host.
Since it started in 2015, the event has brought to East London the likes of Monique Bingham, Riky Rick, Naak Musiq, Sphe & Naves, TBO Touch, Da Les and Fista Mixwell. OKMalumKoolKat, Pastor The DJ and Ganyani are also expected.
Among local artists are NV Funk, Slogan, Mshayi, Admix & LT, Blomzit Avenue, Cooley S, DJ Minty, Welo, Thembi Mona, Stixx, Mjazz, Yoba and DJ LT.
For the first time since the event started, the organisers are giving away a car.
To stand a chance on that car, one simply buys a ticket. Both VIP and general tickets will be entered in the draw.
The model of the vehicle will be announced on the day of the concert.
Event co-founder and marketing director Nikita Manqoyi said the city was known as the capital of entertainment during the December holidays and that is why they came up with the London Roots Party concept.
“The 14-hour extravaganza undoubtedly made one of the biggest attractions in the festive season of 2015 and 2016 respectively. It has gained traction ever since, and continues to bring people together each year.”
While the event is all about bringing friends together, it also creates temporary job opportunities for the youth.
Manqoyi said around 150 temporary jobs would be created.
“This will help them gain more money to use to support themselves.
“We will also be providing experience to this group thus adding more to their CVs for future employment.”
He added that they would be outsourcing some services from small to medium enterprises in order to help them grow and increase their client list.
“This is a good initiative to support this group as they seek such business to gain exposure.”
Manqoyi said they have also included a number of East London’s own talented artists in the lineup.
“The London Roots Party aims at giving a platform to local artists. It is at this event where they gain exposure, fans and further opportunities to showcase their music.
“We allow them to rub shoulders with SA’s great musicians and share their stories to increase their opportunities to break through the industry,” he said.
General tickets for the event cost R180, VIP tickets R550. They are all available on Computicket. Entry at the gate will be R200.
