ACTRESS Gail Mabalane, formerly Nkoane, now belongs to the same family as US stars Ellen Degeneres, Carrie Underwood and Thandie Newton. Well, sort of.
The Kimberly-born beauty, who told True Love magazine in November that some over-zealous suitors had even talked about drinking her used bath water because of her enviable beauty, was revealed this week as South Africa’s first ever ambassador for skin care brand Olay’s Even & Smooth range.
The former Idols SA contestant will appear in print and TV advertisements within the next few weeks.
This comes as a surprise for the usually spotlight-shy person, but even she admitted that she couldn’t say no when the offer came along in August last year.
She said yesterday: “Of course I’ve always been very particular about what I’m out there for and I’m a private person, so I will only step out if it makes business sense. With it being Olay, it’s a great alignment for my brand.”
Skin and hair care product endorsements have been a lucrative business for years in Hollywood, and appear to be slowly developing locally now.
Mabalane said the first and last thing she did every day was wash her face, save for a few days when she is so tired that she even sleeps with her make-up on.
