Taking gospel forward

LOCAL gospel music sensations Chosen are living their dream of making it big time as group members grow in their personal capacity and Chosen prepares for its second album.

Their debut album, Don’t You Cry, last year, was ranked number one for five weeks in a row on Link FM’s Top 40.

The eight-piece group has also received nationwide exposure on other Christian radio stations associated with Link FM.

They have received live television exposure on TBN through River Park Ministries in East London; they have performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown as well as the King William’s Town Carnival and have done performances at Hemingways Mall.

Chosen has also been involved in various school ministries.

Group PR Officer Lyle Baatjies said Chosen could be described as a gospel band with “diverse genres of music styles and a distinct signature of their own” and said working with them had been a pleasure.

“Their love for Jesus Christ and their discipline have been cultivated through the development of their God-given musical talents,” he said.

“It is a delight to work with these vibrant youngsters.”

In addition to expanding their talent to East London, three members from Chosen, Jody Willard (bass guitarist), Diego Shelton (drummer) and Vaughan Fourie (keyboard) have moved to Johannesburg for the opportunity to meet and perform alongside big national and international names, including Loyiso Bala and Lloyd Cele.

For now the trio has returned to their hometown and will reunite with the rest of the Chosen clan to host a concert at the John Bisseker Hall in Parkside tonight .

The show is part of a fundraising effort to buy more musical equipment and for the recording and launch of their second album.

l Tickets for the Chosen concert tonight at 7pm cost R50 each. To buy them contact Baatjies on 0798533794 or contact Link FM. —
