Eastern Cape stylist Kim Reveley is off to the United States as the exclusive hair-stylist for the International Arts Talent Showcase.

The showcase sees youngsters from around the world converging on New York and Florida to impress international talent scouts.

Reveley has been invited by Elsubie Verlinden, who is the exclusive agent for the New York Film Academy and the SA director of the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (Arts) International Expo.

Verlinden is also the director of Just For You Model and Artist Management agency.

For the past three years, Reveley has been working with Johannesburg-based agency Just You Model and Artist Management, styling their models for photo shoots.

Reveley met Verlinden about six years ago when she was styling her hair.

“Elsubie came to do her hair at a hair salon where I was working back then. We kept in contact ever since and she has been the one person pushing me to open my own business.”

Reveley said she could not believe it when she was asked to join the group in New York and Florida.

“It has not sunk in yet. I am still shocked,” she said.

In 2014, Reveley opened her own business, where she has has a personal assistant and a stylist.

She said after working in the industry for five years, she felt it was time to spread her wings.

“Being an entrepreneur has always been a personal goal of mine,” she said.

Reveley said if it were not for Verlinden’s persistence, she would not have opened her business.

“She really believes in me and she has been encouraging me this whole time to go on my own.”

The 26-year-old said going overseas to style South African talent was an opportunity of a life time for her.

“I’ve worked with stylists in Johannesburg and I always learn new things there and bring them back home.

“It is exciting to think that I will be going to New York and Florida to work with other stylists there and bring something back to Port Elizabeth.

“This is like a dream come true for me. Hard work is paying off. I started my business two years ago from nothing and it has grown since,” she said.

Reveley, together with a group of youngsters from across the country, will be leaving next week for Florida to attend the convention.

They will be accompanied by Verlinden. —
