BCM’s R1.4bn sewer upgrade

Buffalo City sewer treatment works are set to receive a major revamp to the value of R1.4-billion.

A report on the state of sewer treatment works sites within the metro formed part of last year’s IDP document.

It painted a picture of sites well past their “sell-by” dates.

The report stated that sewerage systems in the city were well beyond their designed lives, in poor condition and operating at capacity.

BCM spokesman Sibusiso Cindi confirmed yesterday that the metro’s department of sanitation had set aside R1.4-billion to be used to revamp the 15 treatment works stations between 2016 and end of June 2018.
