Danny's FBI probe claim is rubbish, says ANC EC leader Oscar Mabuyane

The ANC in the Eastern Cape has refuted media reports claiming that the Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Danny Jordan employed Sandton attorney Anthony Norton and senior advocate Gilbert Marcus to defend him in the FBI FIFA investigation.

Speaking to DispatchLIVE today, ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane went for the jugular terming the reports as "rubbish".

"It is quite nonsensical that News24 is doing that on the eve of the election.  It is just an ordinary behaviour of the liberal media.  There is no such thing, there are no lawyers hired by comrade Danny to protect him on anything.  He has never been charged.  There is nothing that points to him at this point in time," Mabuyane said.

He lambasted the media for "perpetuating something that does not exist".

"We are condemning this. The media is suppose to be impartial.  It must behave normally.  It must not be seen like it is attempting to create a fertile ground for other political parties," he said.

On Tuesday News24 reported that Jordan had also hired services of New York-based law firm Arnold & Porter.
