Beef over stolen Mzomhle's 50th celebrations meat

Hundreds of pupils and dignitaries who attended the third day of Mzomhle’s 50th celebrations, underway this week, were left hungry when meat which was meant to be prepared for the celebrations was stolen.

Two cows had been donated for the festivities, one collectively by parents of current pupils and another by a former pupil.

The cow donated by parents was slaughtered and refrigerated at the school premises over the weekend in preparation for Monday and Tuesday while the other was delivered by the former pupil, who had slaughtered and cut the meat before delivering it to the school  yesterday afternoon.

School principal Malusi Koltana said he was devastated when he arrived at the school to find the library, where the meat was kept in a freezer, broken into.

“They had somehow ripped open the burglar gate and forced entry through a small window in the library and left the freezer chest empty. This is a major setback and disappointment because we were in a joyous mode now our spirits have been dampened by this, never mind the fact that we have honourable guests and past pupils whom we are supposed to be feeding.”

Koltana said a case had been opened with the Mdantsane police station.
