Rhodes students in violent standoff with cops

    #FeesMustFall protests have continued at Rhodes University. Today students and police have been engaged in a long-day standoff with police firing rubber bullets, pellet guns and teargas to disperse protesters.

    Students have taken the fight to the police by throwing stones.

    Chaos erupted as a student leader was arrested while trying to stop students from pelting the police with rocks.

    The situation on the campus has escalated as violence between the police and students continued throughout the day.

    Police have barricaded the university. The students have said it cannot be business as usual. This comes after the university said it plans to forge ahead with the exams.
