Four people have died in a three-car pile-up on the R61 between the Eastern Cape and Western Cape. The accident happened after two taxis collided head–on. Though details are still sketchy it is reported that an SUV was also involved in the accident.
According to the provincial Emergency Medical Services about six people were seriously injured in the accident with 14 others reported to have suffered injury. One of the seriously injured had to be airlifted to a hospital in Beaufort West.
The road was closed and traffic came to a standstill for two-and-a-half hours as emergency personnel tried to free two bodies trapped in the rubble.
