ABANDONED: The car belonging to a Lusikisiki teacher who was killed last week

Harrowing details have emerged of the murder of an Eastern Cape school teacher last weekend.

The woman teacher from Lusikisiki – who has yet to be formally identified – had been  stabbed several times after being abducted from her home.

Her body was then placed in the boot of her own car while her assailants drove around and allegedly tried to sell the car – with her body still inside – for R5000.

The teacher’s body was later found in a forest while her car was recovered in another village.

Police spokesman Captain Mduduzi Godlwana told the Saturday Dispatch yesterday that the teacher had last been seen stopping at the gate of her home in Ntsimbini at about 8pm on Saturday.

“The people she lives with went outside to look when she had not entered the house after some time and there was no car outside.

“She also was not there and the matter was reported to the police,” he said.

The car was reportedly later found abandoned in Ngobozana village not too far from Ntsimbini, while her body was found dumped in a forest at a church site at Mcobothini village.

“She had been stabbed multiple times,” said Godlwana.

Police were unable to provide exact details of what had happened to the teacher.

Godlwana said “some” suspects had subsequently been arrested and had appeared in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court during the week on charges of hijacking and murder.

By late yesterday he was unable to provide the Dispatch with the name of the victim, her age, how many suspects had been arrested, their ages or the outcome of their court appearance.

Godlwana said he was attending to another murder scene when contacted yesterday and would only be able to provide the information once finished at the scene.

An e-mail sent to the Dispatch this week by the victim’s daughter from Australia expressed shock and outrage at the murder.

Sonia Davids said a slipper belonging to her mother, whom she did not name in the e-mail, had been found in front of the gate, while her car had later been recovered a few kilometres away with its number plates missing and blood on the passenger’s side of the vehicle.

Davids, who was expected to arrive in South Africa today, said her mother was a well-known teacher in the area who had dedicated herself to helping the community.

“If they wanted the car they should’ve just taken it instead of taking a life which in the process has now devastated a community.”

Davids said her mother’s fiance had been murdered four years ago when he was stabbed 15 times. — sikhon@dispatch.co.za
