Lecture moved after illegal claims for cash

The Buffalo City College (BCC) and the SA Student Congress (Sasco) head office are investigating two senior student leaders who allegedly solicited some R10 000 from ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize.

Mkhize was at the BCC campus on Tuesday to deliver the O R Tambo memorial lecture.

In the letter seen by the Dispatch addressed to Luthuli House, BCC principal Dharamshand Singh alleges SA Student Congress BCC branch chairman Siyamthanda Ngqutwana and Sasco provincial deputy chairman Ondela “Obama” Sokomani had demanded R10 000 from event organisers.

The sum was for booking the college hall at R8 000 and R2 000 for “lobbying comrades” with alcohol.

Singh goes on to distance the institution from demanding the money from Mkhize saying he regretted that the event ended up not taking place because of Sokomani and Ngqutwana’s actions.
