The Port Alfred school for the blind operated by an East London businesswoman, Nandipa Bhayi, has been abruptly closed due to a rent default.
As a result, 28 blind people and two others who are wheelchair-bound had to be removed from the school on Friday, leaving their belongings and wheelchairs behind.
The school, Konwaba Training Institute, which is situated at Cannon Rocks beach cabins, owes R150000 rent to Siwelele Co-Operative.
Bhayi yesterday confirmed that they had been removed from the centre due to non-payment of rent.
