An Eastern Cape policewoman was transferred to a public hospital after she was involved in a car accident last year.

This was not because Sergeant Ncomeka Mapasa-Mtyali did not have sufficient funds in her medical aid fund, but because she had been injured on duty (IOD).

St Dominic’s Hospital in East London stabilised her condition and sent her to Frere Hospital because some state departments and private companies have been blacklisted by the Life Healthcare Group in the Border Kei region – because of historic nonpayment or delayed payment in settling hospital bills for IOD patients.
