Bhisho girl to head Winter Universiade 2015 delegation

University of Fort Hare graduate Luleka Haya is representing South Africa as head of delegation at the Granada Winter Universiade – a multi-sport winter event – in Spain.

Haya, of Bhisho, is a national executive council member of University Sport South Africa (USSA) and heads the transformation and development portfolio.

As head of delegation, the passionate Haya will be representing South Africa in meetings regarding the competition, which starts today, and facilitating the well-being of athletes.

Only one athlete from South Africa is going to the winter Universiade – national skating champion Lejeanne Marais from Tshwane University of Technology.

USSA CEO Louis Nel said of Haya: “She is a very dynamic person and leader as well and as part of our developing leaders. We decided to appoint her into taking the team to the Universiade.”

Haya said they hoped to make an impression at the competition this year. “We are hoping for a medal always, but I want to encourage Lejeanne have fun and do her best.”

USSA is the national sporting body for universities and is responsible for organising national tournaments and facilitates students going to international tournaments.
