EFF office occupation condemned

BOSSES of the Eastern Cape Freedom Fighters (EFF) have opened a criminal case against a disgruntled group which forcefully moved into the party’s headquarters in King William’s Town on Monday.

EFF coordinator Vuyisile Schoeman and provincial convener Simcelile Rubela laid the complaint with the King William’s Town police after the EFF group stormed the party’s offices demanding keys and documentation.

Schoeman said the party opened a case of trespassing and theft.

He said: “These people left with keys and the party documentation.  There is more security in the premises now and locks have been changed.”

King William’s Town police spokes-woman Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa confirmed a case of intimidation was opened.

EFF members led by Andile Matshaya, who claimed to be the provincial spokesman, occupied the premises and demanded keys and documentation from a receptionist, who was visibly shaking.

They then held a press conference to announce a new EFF structure to be led by the party’s legislature leader, Themba Wele.

Wele, however, condemned the actions of his supporters saying this was not “the proper route”.

“They should have written to the national structure for their grievances to be heard,” Wele said.

The actions of the dissenting group had triggered an intervention from the national structure.

“EFF is for the poor. It’s for the community of the Eastern Cape and the whole country meaning that each and every member of this party deserves to be listened to when they have a problem. It comes as a shock to me that there are people who were rejected (EFF) membership because they came from the DA,” Wele said.

However, Schoeman accused Wele of inciting the disgruntled members.

“These people are being handled by Wele. He is the one giving them instructions.  Our leadership is intact. It is not shaken,” he said.
