‘Generations’ actors on stayaway: report

ACTORS of the popular SABC1 soapie Generations embarked on a stay-away last week, the Saturday Star reported.

The cast claimed that the broadcaster as well as the production company, MMSV, had failed to deliver on promises it made to them during their strike last year.

“We came back to work after the first strike in good faith on the understanding that all the issues … would be addressed by the SABC by March 2014,” the cast was quoted as saying.

“Since then, they have missed their own deadline... with no discernible resolution to our grievances in sight. Instead we’ve been ordered back to work and threatened with dismissal.”

The cast was reportedly promised three-year contracts which they had not received.

They also felt cheated out of royalties which was money earned from rebroadcasts as well as when the soapie aired in other countries.

The actors also wanted salary adjustments. The Saturday Star claimed it could not reach the SABC for comment.
