Typical East London wet weather saw the inaugural Legends Wellness Expo got off to quiet start yesterday.

Although yesterday was the official first day of the Expo, as exhibitors began setting up and getting ready for the main two days, things are expected to pick up over the next two days as all the stores will be up and operational and athletes will be arriving and getting involved in the fun.

The Expo, which is the first of its kind for East London, will be aiming to have left its mark by the time it ends tomorrow.

“We are very happy, first and formost to get the expo up and off the ground,” said Legends chairman Luthando Bara. “It has never been done before and people must come and take in the experience.

“Today (Wednesday) was just about setting up and getting everything ready, tomorrow (Thursday) when athletes will be registering and getting involved we are expecting more people to come in.”

At the Expo yesterday a few stores under the small enterprise development agency banner had been set up selling various products, as well as other stalls including ceramic arts, handsewn clothing, leather clothing and cane weaving.

A Eastern Cape Gambling Board stall was also up, warning of the dangers of gambling addiction and welcoming people to get an interactive look at how to spend money wisely and what not to spend on.

The Steve Biko Foundation also had a stall up and a group of performing arts students walked through the Expo singing and dancing at one stage, making for a lively and welcome impromptu show.

“We are very impressed with some of the exhibitors like Galaxy and the Gambling Board who have gone all out, but we are also very happy to have filled all of our 30 stalls and are happy with all the people who have involved themselves in this Expo,” said Bara.

Today all of the 30 stores should be fully up and running and with athletes around and getting involved it should make for a more lively atmosphere over the next two days.

Entry to the Expo is free and everyone is welcome. “We believe that this Expo will become bigger and more popular and next year we will be able to expand and improve on things and grow it along with the Marathon,” said Bara.

The massive win-a-car competition is also still open and entries can be found in the Daily Dispatch.

Entries for the competition will be accepted right up to 10am on the day of the race, with the draw happening later in the day.

To win the car you need to be in attendance at the Jan Smuts Stadium when the draw is made to collect the prize yourself.

Entries for both the win-a-car and 5km fun run can be dropped off at the Wellness Expo, while the car that can be won will be on show.
