Pair in court after R2.7-million dagga bust

Two suspects appeared in the Libode Magistrate’s Court today after being arrested with dagga valued at R2.7-million.

It is the biggest dagga bust in the Eastern Cape this year.

The duo‚ aged 30 and 40 years‚ were nabbed when they were found sleeping in a homestead in Ntlaza village near Libode at about 9pm on Friday‚ Qumbu police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Zilungile Nkamba said.

“Police from Tina Falls were tipped off about a certain homestead in Ntlaza which had dagga in the premises. They swiftly searched the homestead and arrested two suspects in possession of dagga‚” she said.

The drug was allegedly stashed in sacks and drums.

Nkamba said the two were charged with dealing in dagga. The men were held in custody until their next court appearance on May 6‚ when they are expected to apply for bail.
