EC pair in court for marrying unsuspecting local women to foreign nationals

Two Eastern Cape women arrested this week for marrying local women to foreign nationals without their knowledge, are making their first appearance at the King Williams Town Magistrate's Court this morning.

The women,  aged 45 and 27, were arrested on Tuesday by the Hawks after two women - one from Mount Frere and another from Cofimvaba - had laid complaints about being married to foreign nationals without their knowledge.

The Mount Frere woman raised alarm after she had seen a marriage certificate from her boyfriend who is a foreign national, while the Cofimvaba was shocked after finding out she had been married to a foreign national she has never met in her life.

The two arrested women, one of them an admin clerk at home affairs' King Williams Town offices,  were found with blank marriage certificates and other home affairs equipment when they were arrested.

They are charged for fraud and illegal possession of state material.
