Pair recovering in hospital after farm attack

A farm manager and his employee are recovering in the Bhisho hospital after being attacked on their farm in Kei Road outside East London.

Vusumzi Poni‚ 54‚ and his assistant Masixole Bobani‚ 33‚ were sleeping in separate rooms in Hillingdale farm when six men broke in on Tuesday night‚ tied them up with ropes and began assaulting them with pangas.

The incident occurred just after 11pm.

The assailants were said to be wearing balaclavas and were armed with firearms.

They took the farm manager’s clothing‚ firearm‚ four goats and six sheep.

The suspects fled the scene leaving their victims bleeding and unconscious.

The two injured men were only assisted at 10am on Wednesday after their boss Lumkile Poni called in the morning to find out if everything was fine on the farm.

Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa confirmed the incident‚ saying a case of aggravated robbery‚ malicious damage to property and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm was being investigated.

No suspect has been arrested yet.
