Panayiotou snubs family as he arrives at court

Christopher Panayiotou's defence team today requested an adjournment to go over an affidavit they had just received.

The contents of the affidavit were unknown‚ but it is believed that it is from the state.

The court session at the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court was set to resume at 11.15am.

Christopher Panayiotou walked into court dressed in a black blazer and showed no emotions.

He did not greet his family‚ who were seated right behind him‚ and instead just looked straight ahead and listened as his legal team bid for the adjournment.

Panayiotou is accused of orchestrating his wife Jayde’s murder in April‚ and is alleged to have offered R70 000 for the hit.

Magistrate Abigail Beaton scolded members of the media for using flashes to take photographs as well snapping pictures of court staff.

Beaton said that the court would bar media — especially the SABC and eTV — should they not adhere to the rules she has given.

No one from Jayde’s family could be seen anywhere in the vicinity of the court and only Panayiotou’s family was present.

They occupied the entire front row in the public gallery.

Panayiotou’s alleged mistress Chanelle Couts was also not present.
