Police to probe horror DV death

EAST London police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Duncan Village man who allegedly had his heart, lungs and other vital body parts cut out.

The man’s body was found near the Gompo Hall yesterday not far from the township’s main road.

The deceased, only known to residents as “Skippers”, was said to be on his way to Amalinda where he makes a living as a shoemaker.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after 7am and found the body lying on a footpath.

East London police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala suspected the man, believed to be in his 50s, was killed where his body was found.  He was last seen leaving home by his neighbour Nokwinti Phangalala, 74.

By 9am about 300 bystanders had gathered at the scene. Members of the Organised Crimes Unit arrived on hearing the deceased had missing body parts.

Detectives  were heard saying the killing was the work of a professional who had knowledge of conducting postmortems because the killer had penetrated the victim’s chest  so as to not damage the heart.

Bystander Bulelo Mqulo said:  “I know Skippers. He arrived in Duncan Village many years ago. He was the go-to guy when you needed your shoe fixed at an affordable price and he did a good job.”

Eastern Cape health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said  a full autopsy would  be conducted on Monday.

l  In Mount Ayliff, two Malawi nationals and a woman are facing murder charges after a man was burned to death last week.

Ntombentsundu Sikhisi allegedly hired her boyfriend, Weston Phiri, and Major Katsanga to kill her husband, Malungelo Sikhisi.

They took his vehicle, tied him up with a rope and burned him to death. The three were then arrested by police a few days later and briefly appeared in the Mt Ayliff Magistrate’s Court for murder, robbery and hijacking.  Sikhisi’s houses have since been burned to ashes by angry community members.  — additional reporting by Abongile Mgaqelwa
