Trevor Noah hits back at critics

South African comedian Trevor Noah has hit back at his critics for using old tweets to discredit him.

Speaking out on his Twitter account yesterday‚ Noah said: “To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character‚ nor my evolution as a comedian.”

Noah‚ 31‚ came under fire for posts he made on the social network as far back as 2009 after he was named the new host of US satirical talk show‚ The Daily Show.

Some of the tweets included:

* “Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn’t look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!” from 2009;

* “Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I’m sexy! — fat chicks everywhere.” from 2011; and

* “Messi gets the ball and the real players try foul him‚ but Messi doesn’t go down easy‚ just like jewish chicks. #ElClasico.” from 2012.
