Winnie Madikizela-Mandela faces estate battle

Exactly a year after former state president Nelson Mandela was buried in Qunu, the executors of his estate decided to oppose the court application by his ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

Deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke released a statement today saying he and his two co-executors, Judge President Themba Sangoni and Advocate George Bizos, resolved to oppose her claim after “trying to resolve the dispute amicably”.

Madikizela-Mandela wants the court to nullify the registration of the Qunu property in Mandela's name. She claims that the property belongs to her and that she had sourced it when Mandela was still behind bars.

The Qunu property was bequeathed to the Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Family Trust on behalf of Mandela's widow Graca Machel and her two children and the rest of the Mandela family
