Leaders from Brazil‚ Russia‚ India‚ China‚ and SA (Brics) who together account for a large share of global growth and trade‚ have concluded their summit in Ufa‚ Russia‚ with a renewed commitment to co-operate to grow their economies and create jobs‚ particularly through infrastructure development and improved trade.

“More active intra-Brics trade and investment co-operation will contribute to economic growth‚ and facilitate the use of existing opportunities‚” they said.

Other areas of co-operation included manufacturing and minerals processing‚ energy‚ agriculture‚ finance‚ and technology.

Leaders and business people from the group are eagerly awaiting the full operation of their new development bank‚ aimed at financing particularly infrastructure projects.

President Jacob Zuma was investing “all efforts” to make sure that SA’s environment was conducive for investments.

SA is the only Brics member-country that offers a 10-year multiple-entry visa to business people from the group to facilitate quicker business deals.

Mr Zuma also said a “harmonised visa regime” among member states would be beneficial.
