Several Good Samaritans moved by the plight of the surviving Arosi family members battling to bury four loved ones, have come forward offering to assist with funeral arrangements and burial costs.

The Daily Dispatch this week reported that the destitute family was battling to bury four of their family members – three of whom were gunned down in a shooting on Sunday.

Lindiwe Arosi died soon after she was admitted to the Nelson Mandela Central Hospital with gunshot wounds to her abdomen on Sunday night.

Her son, Buntu, 25, and daughter, Ntandokazi, 20, died earlier when four men armed with R5s opened fire on them at their Ngangenlizwe home.

Arosi’s husband Sazi, 49, died of natural causes almost three weeks ago.

Surviving family members believe that Sunday’s attack was motivated by revenge after a Ngangelizwe man was stoned to death two weeks ago.

It is alleged that friends of the deceased man had accused Buntu of being involved in his stoning.

Yesterday, Mthatha businessman and philanthropist Dr Dan Pasiya came to the rescue of the family.

“We were so moved by the Dispatch report about this tragedy and decided to take it upon ourselves to assist in this situation,” said Pasiya.

“The few pennies we are blessed by God with we decided to share with those who are needy and share their pain as part of Ubuntu.”

Pasiya said that having lived in Ngangelizwe in 1959, it felt like his second home.

He yesterday donated groceries to the family and after a private meeting, committed to assisting them further.

“We must help take their pain away,” said Pasiya, when addressing the mourners and residents.

Mthatha lawyers Ntsikelelo and Ntsikane Mtshabe, who also grew up in Ngangelizwe, donated groceries and pledged to assist the family as well.

Pasiya and the Mtshabe brothers said they would ensure the deceased were all given dignified funerals, and that they would pay for their coffins.

“We are residents and grew up here. We must help where there is a need. We decided to do the best we can to assist them bury their family members in dignity,” said Ntsikane.

Earlier in the week, the head of the Ibandla Lasemthin Evangelical Movement, Archbishop Tshepo Machaea, vistied the family and made a contribution, including

groceries.

OR Tambo mayor Nomakhosazana Meth, KSD mayor Nonkoliso Ngqongwa and Nyandeni mayor Thoko Sokhanyile also visited the family on Tuesday and pledged to assist with the funerals.

The funerals for the family will be held on Saturday, at Waterfall Park in Mthatha.
