Top acts to rock at the Easter weekend, but Emonti Urban Jazz and Gospel Festival postponed

The Emonti Urban Jazz and Gospel Festival may be postponed for a date in April, but music fans in the region will still be spoilt for choice as various artists will be setting stages alight at different venues over the Easter weekend.

Emonti festival organiser Litha Yaya said the event had to be postponed due to circumstances beyond his control.

He said that there were two options available to people who had purchased tickets – either request a refund from Computicket or request a reissue of the tickets for the new date of April 30.

The venue would not be changed and the lineup would remain the same.

Meanwhile, Xhosa musos Sliq Angel and MXO – who have joined forces and are now known as Roots 2000 – will be bringing their unique sound to the Eastern Cape this weekend. The duo will be performing at a cultural event in Ross Mission near Mthatha tomorrow.

Speaking to the Dispatch yesterday, Sliq Angel said: “Our music has that African feel; it’s rooted in our culture.”

The duo have released their first single, Nomasundu.

A big attraction lined up for East London is the Ubuntu Calabash Music Festival taking place at Winter Rose Stadium, Mdantsane this Sunday.

This event has a lineup that features some of the best local and national hip-hop, reggae and house acts including Khuli Chana, Kid X, Driemanskap, Nkevastan, Black Delinger, Lulo Cafe and many more. The day-time affair starts at 10am and tickets are available at Computicket for R100 – and at R150 at the gate before 6pm and R180 after 7pm.

Hip-hop act Dreamteam and Khuli Chana will perform at Buccaneers Pub and Grill this Sunday. The show starts at 4pm, and tickets cost R100 before 6pm and R120 thereafter.

The sixth Annual Ginsberg Easter Festival is still on, and there’s a wide range of activities lined up for the weekend, including a film festival, music, dance, puppetry workshops and a storytelling session. Entrance is free.

The inaugural Mhlontlo Easter Festival takes place tomorrow, with Amacala singing sensation Siphokazi being the main attraction. The event will be at the Tsolo Junction multi- purpose centre. Tickets, at R60 and R200 for VIP ones, are available at Computicket.

The show starts at 2pm.
