TALENTED Eastern Cape songstress Berita has initiated a support campaign in East London to thank her fans for their support and to encourage them to vote in next month’s Metro FM Awards.
Berita became a household name after releasing her first single titled Thandolwethu. The track received enormous air play from local and national radio stations.
The 21-year-old then took everyone by storm when her debut album titled Conquering Spirit, which was released last year, sold out two days after hitting the shelves of music stores nationwide.
Her manager, Luyolo Beku, said Berita kicked off her campaign last weekend with a performance at Bar Kulcha in Vincent and House of Hansa on Friday night.
On Saturday she performed at Rhythm Bar in Amalinda.
Beku said the Walter Sisulu University had a free performance at Cambridge location where she shot the video of one of her songs late last year.
Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday Berita said her music career started in East London before flourishing onto the national stage “hence I thank my fans from East London”.
Beku said they have lined up free performances until February. “We just put Berita’s music out there and make sure people vote for her.”
Berita is expected to perform at schools, hospitals, pubs and taverns throughout East London in the next two months.
She has been nominated in two categories, Best African Pop and Best Contemporary Jazz album.
