Church helps launch gospel artist

AFTER years of singing on the streets and selling his albums himself, King William’s Town-born gospel artist Lusindiso Sajini officially launched his new album on Saturday with the help of a local church.

Sajini started singing in primary school and after matric in 2004 dedicated his life to making music.

Though he has never had a launch for any of his previous six albums, Sajini has performed endlessly on the streets all over the province.

Sajini said early this year he had started singing at community outreach events organised by the Faith Alive Bible Church where he met Pastor Malombo Sigobelwana.

Sigobelwana and the church have taken him under their wing and helped organise his album launch.

“During our outreach we work with local artists. They sing for the people while we hand out clothes and food and pray for people.

“Sajini was one of the artists who sang for us at an outreach in Nompumelelo and he has since joined the church,” said Sigobelwana.

The launch was attended by more than 200 people including well-known gospel artists Malibongwe Gcwabe and Phumla .

Sigobelwana said they were pleased with the turnout.

“Considering Sindi is unknown (in the industry) and who performs on the streets, we were happy with the results of the event,” he said.

Sajini said he hoped his music would touch many people and one day he would be one of the best-known gospel singers in the country.

Sigobelwana said the church believed God had blessed them by bringing Sajini forward, and it was their responsibility to see to it God’s message reached as many people as possible.

Sajini started recording songs in high school and had his first album when he was in Grade 11.

Sajini said his parents’ divorce had motivated him to record his music and perform live on the streets.

He said he used music as an escape from family life and spent hours writing songs and praying to God.

“Drawing closer to God was the only thing that took my mind off what was happening at home. I did not want to end up doing unlawful things because of my parents’ divorce,” he said.

Sajini said he enjoyed making music and it gave him joy knowing he was sharing the gospel with so many people.

“I’ve been performing on the streets for about 10 years now and did some back-up singing for many well-known artists in the province,” he said.

In the past he sold his albums on the streets while performing.

With the little he makes from his music, Sajini takes care of his mother and siblings.

Sigobelwana said the church would continue assisting Sajini until he got a manager.

The church would try and distribute Sajini’s music to radio stations nationally and help sell his album in music shops. —
