Zuma is now a ‘reality’ star

A REALITY TV series that has young people tackling the country’s problems has received the presidential nod.

Not only did President Jacob Zuma promise that his office would throw its weight behind One Day Leader, he said the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities should also sponsor the show.

At the show’s first presidential visit, Zuma on Tuesday evening said he was highly impressed by how the contestants had shown an interest in the country’s problems.

Now in its second season, One Day Leader seeks out young people with exceptional leadership profiles.

Challenges on the show include tackling issues such as drug abuse, crime and problems in education.

Contestants are tasked with coming up with creative projects, which they then implement in certain communities.

During the filming of the episode Dinner with the President, Zuma shared a meal with contestants Seadimo Tlale, Sanda Ncama, Anele Nzimande and Bongekile Zinhle Radebe.

“It is absolutely pleasing to be in the company of young people who are thinking so hard about our society,” Zuma said.

The youngsters quizzed the president on youth development issues such as economic prospects, education and moral regeneration. The episode will air on Sunday at 6.30pm on SABC1. —
