Dream realised for brave boy

THE bright smile on 10-year-old Loyiso Velaphi’s face yesterday was all thanks to the Reach for a Dream Foundation and Plus Plant Hire after fulfilling the young boy’s dream.

Diagnosed with junior arthritis at the age of four, Loyiso has more than enough reason to give up on himself, but the little boy was filled with nothing but joy meeting the Daily Dispatch at McDonald’s in Vincent yesterday.

Fulfilling Loyiso’s dream of getting toys and clothes forms part of the foundation’s 25 Dreams campaign, marking their 25-year anniversary of making dreams come true for children fighting life-threatening illnesses. The Daily Dispatch has partnered with the foundation as a media partner in helping realise the dreams of these kids.

Loyiso, accompanied by his mother, Qaqamba, members of the Reach for a Dream foundation and Lorraine Woodbridge from Plus Plant Hire, excitedly unwrapped his gifts at McDonald’s yesterday.

The team then made their way to the hospital to hand over a TV to nine-year- old Phumlani Ngetu, who we were unable to see.

Margi Coutts, Reach for a Dream East London branch manager, said: “We’re so excited to launch the 25 Dreams campaign with the Daily Dispatch; a big thank you to Lorraine Woodbridge of Plus Plant Hire for fulfilling two dreams,” she said.

“A child’s life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark. Plus Plant Hire is honoured to leave a mark on Loyiso and Phumlani’s lives,” Woodbridge said.

Qaqamba said: “It makes me happy seeing him this excited after getting everything he wanted, I just want to say thank you very much to everyone.”

An ecstatic Loyiso commented: “I am so happy.”

The Reach for a Dream foundation invites businesses or individuals to help them reach their target of 25 dreams. To find out which dreams are available and how you can help, Coutts can be contacted at margi@reachforadream.org.za —
