Joyous break for sick child

THE East London Aquarium became the site of a dream come true for four-year-old Inonge Mtiki on Friday afternoon after the Reach for a Dream foundation fulfilled his wish and put a smile on his face.

After meeting Inonge at the Frere Hospital earlier this year, Reach for a Dream adopted him as one of its own and made it their mission to realise his dreams.

The boy has been in hospital for almost a year, as a result of renal complications.

However, on Friday, all that was forgotten and little Inonge was overwhelmed when the foundation gave him his own DVD player. The foundation included some games, as well as clothing for the young boy, who met the Daily Dispatch donned in his new Spiderman outfit.

Because of his love for fish, the foundation decided to treat Inonge to a trip to at the East London Aquarium, where he enjoyed the seal show.

“I feel so happy and this is right. I feel so relaxed and happy,” Inonge said.

Inonge was accompanied by his equally excited mother, Nomzama Mtiki, (SUBS:CORR) who was thrilled to see her son out of hospital, even just for the afternoon.

“I am very happy; these are memories that he will have with him forever. The Reach for a Dream Foundation are doing a good thing by making children happy and parents should trust them to bring a smile to their children. To other parents with sick children, I urge you not to give up hope,” she said.

Inonge’s treat was part of the foundation’s 25 Dreams Campaign, marking its 25-year anniversary of making dreams come true for children fighting life-threatening illnesses.

The Dispatch has partnered with the foundation as a media partner.

East London resident Christopher Vorster was responsible for making Inonge’s dream come true.

“I wish Inonge all the best and I am happy that I was able to assist in fulfilling his dream.

“To quote Mary Anne Radmacher: ‘Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow’,” said Vorster said.

Margi Coutts, Reach for a Dream East London branch manager, added: “I just wish more people could have seen Inonge’s joy when he saw the sea for the first time – thank you to Christopher for making his dream come true and for creating magic memories for him and his mom, which they will never forget.”

lThe Reach for a Dream Foundation invites businesses or individuals to help them reach their target of 25 dreams.
